The Hidden Dangers Of Mirapex
Monday, March 31st, 2008By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=S._Wagner] S. Wagner My own mother suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, so I know first hand how horrible this can be. However, if you are taking the drug Mirapex, or are considering taking this drug, you should be aware, not only of the side effects, but of the potential dangers that we are first starting to learn about, some of which might surprise you. This article will explain what Mirapex is for, how it works and what the side effects and dangers are. Mirapex is for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. Mirapex is a dopamine and is the brand name drug for Pramipexole. The drug itself helps treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease such as shakiness, slow movement and unsteadiness. The drug is usually prescribed along with other medications in order to control this disease. The way this drug works is that it helps to restore the normal balance of dopamine in a person’s brain. As with all other drugs, Mirapex has its side effects. The most common of these are nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, constipation, headache, and dry mouth. These are actually side effects that are common with many drugs. But where Mirapex is a problem is with the side effect that nobody ever saw coming. There have been reports by people who are using this drug of sudden compulsive behavior. For example, several people have reported becoming compulsive gamblers. It would be several months before they eventually realized what was going on and then when thinking back to when the compulsion started, it was when they began taking Mirapex for their Parkinson’s Disease. While there is no conclusive evidence to support that the compulsive behavior is actually caused by Mirapex, the number of cases reported can’t be coincidence. Of course if you want to dismiss this theory, there is the very real problem of those taking Mirapex experiencing cases of falling asleep suddenly. This can be extremely dangerous, especially when driving. Studies show that this problem will usually show up when a person first starts taking Mirapex, so it is suggested that you take the drug for a while before getting into your car or doing anything that could be dangerous if you were to fall asleep suddenly. The party line from the drug companies is that the benefits from Mirapex far outweigh the possible risks and therefore, that is why your doctor has prescribed this medication for you. My view on modern medicine is not a good one. Nutritionists have found a number of treatments for many diseases that don’t require the use of drugs. Parkinson’s Disease is one of them. The use of antioxidants has proven to be very effective in the treatment of Parkinson’s. The point is, you don’t have to resort to harmful drugs in order to treat most diseases.
